Flavio Sala

Flavio Sala, born in Bojano (CB) in 1983, started studying classical guitar, under the leadership of Maestro Adriano Oliva, when he was eight years old, immediately demonstrating a strong propensity for music.
In 1994 he entered the “Lorenzo Perosi” Conservatory in Campobasso, where he attended the course held by Maestro Pasqualino Garzia for eight years, at the end of which he graduated, still very young, with full marks, a first-class degree an honourable mention.
In 1995 he won the European Competition “Città di Barletta”, in 1996 the “Città di Ercolano” Competition, in 1998 the “Città di Ortona” Competition, where he won the highest award in each section and category. In 2000 he won the second prize of the International Competition of Isernia.
In 2001 he carried off First Prize of the International Competition of Gargnano.
Within the VII International Guitar Meeting and the International Competition “Michele Pittaluga “ he made his debut as “Best Italian Young Talent” at the Alessandria Theatre.
With a unanimous vote, he won in 2003 the First Prize of the prestigious Classical Guitar Competition “Michele Pittaluga” - Premio Città di Alessandria. Therefore, he will give many concerts in Italy, Spain, Austria, Russia and U.S.A., as soloist and with orchestra, as well as to make a record.
Since 1998 he was been attending the international master classes of Accademia Chigiana of Siena, held by Maestro Oscar Ghiglia, here obtaining every year the diploma for merit, the grant of the Foundation and the “Emma Contestabile” grant, arranged for the best students.
Recently this same institution has suggested to engage him for some concerts in Italy.
Encouraging and inspiring have been his meetings with Alirio Diaz, Mario Gangi and Paco de Lucia.
He has also performed pieces by some contemporary composers, such as Giacomo Manzoni, who expressed encouraging critical comments about the interpretation of his pieces.
At present, he is improving himself with Pasqualino Garzia, Oscar Ghiglia and Frédéric Zigante.
He plays a guitar by the master luthier Camillo Perrella from Bojano.

THE OPINION OF THE PRESS.
“...he has showed an amazing technical and instrumental confidence: even in the most tortuous passages, every note has maintained absolute refinement and purity.
A virtuosity invariably sustained and enlighted by a sharp musical intelligence...”
(Il Giornale di Brescia).
“...despite his youth, the Molisan guitarist already shows a pronounced musical personality, as well as a confident mastery of the instrument...”
(Seicorde).
“...the famous composer Giacomo Manzoni, after listening to the interpretation of his Echi by the student Flavio Sala [...], has publicly admitted that Sala’s execution of his composition was the best he had ever heard...”
(Quotidiano del Molise, extract from an interview with Maestro Franz Albanese, Director of the Campobasso Conservatory).
“...cold and extremely self-controlled in the most virtuosic passages, [...] on the contrary always looking for timbre refinement...”
(Quotidiano del Trentino Alto Adige).
“...it made a favourable impression, [...], he provided further excitement in the form of an exceptionally convincing Usher-Valse. Perhaps, it takes the fiery imagination of a 17-year old to do this work full justice...”
(Colin Cooper, Classical Guitar Magazine, London).
