Irina
Kulikova was born in 1982 in Chelyabinsk, Russia. As a daughter of a musical
family, she commenced studying guitar at the age of six. In 1992 she was
admitted into New Names- the International program for young
talents. In October the same year she won the first prize for young guitar
players at the International Competition in Chelyabinsk. This was followed in 1993 by participating in a regional and in a television competition winning first prize in both. In 1994 she won three first prizes, Classical Guitar in Ural- Chelyabinsk, Classical Guitar Players- Novosibirsk (Siberia) and Guitar in Russia in Voronezh. As the winner of international competitions Irina was invited the same year to perform in a number of concerts in Italy and in 1995 she received invitations to play at gala concerts in Russia. In the following year she was invited to the 11th International Guitar Festival in Poland where a transmission of the concert was shown on national television. Later the same year and in 1997 she took part in the International Festival of Classic Guitar in West Dean (England)and performed solo in a number of concerts. In December 1998 Irina received a first prize by the Open Competition S. Saidascheva in Kazan, Tatarstan. From 1998 to 2000 she studied at the Tchaikovsky College in Chelyabinsk with (amongst others) Professor and composer Victor Kozlov and Professor of musicology Alexandr Volgusnov, graduating with excellent results. After this, she studied principal guitar with Professor Vladimir Chlopovsky at the Russian Academy of Music named after Gnessins in Moscow, from 2000 untill 2005. From that time onwards, Irina has performed in musical festivals and solo concerts in Russia as well as in Italy, England, Poland, Germany, Holland, Austria, Spain and the USA. Amongst them were the Salzburg Schloss Concerts in the Schloss Mirabell. In 2000 Irina made a CD together with her teacher Vladimir Chlopovsky. This CD was recorded in Peter Kondraschins Studio with the Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mak Ka Lok and published in Hong Kong under the title The Popular Classical Pieces. In 2005 she recorded her first solo-CD. Irina is included in the book The Classical Guitar - its evolution, players and personalities since 1800 by Maurice J. Summerfield, director of Ashley Mark Publishing Company. Also she appeared in several editions of the Classical Guitar Magazine. Currently, Irina is studying in the Mozarteum University in Salzburg with Professors Matthias Seidl and Marco Tamayo (guitar), and Professors Howard Penny (baroque music), Simone Fontanelli (modern music) and Hans Bruederl (baroque lute). Irina has enjoyed Master Classes with great musicians like Kshyhtoph Peleh, John Mills, Eliot Fisk, Manuel Barrueco, Jose Maria Gallardo del Rey, Sergio Assad, Ricardo Gallen and David Russell. In 2006 she was awarded a special prize in the competition of Koblenz (Germany, Internationales Pfingstseminar (IPS) Koblenz Guitar Festival), third prizes in Vienna (Austria, Forum Gitarre Wien) and Charleroi (Belgium, Printemps de la Guitare), second prize in London (England, Ivor Mariants Guitar Award) and first prize in the competition of Coria (Spain). In 2007 she again got the special prize in Koblenz, and second prizes in Caceres (Spain) and Naxos(Greece), the third Price at the 40th Pittaluga in Alessandria (Italy).
