10th International Guitar Convention

As always the finishing touch of the Alessandria competition, the 10th guitar convention was held on 1st October.
The people attending included lots of teachers, Festival directors and guitar schools, enthusiasts and scholars of this instrument, musicologists and professionals.
Two floors of the Theatre in Alessandria were made available, with Foyer set aside for the exhibition of stringed instruments and the latest publishing news, and the Ferrero room was open for exhibitions, conferences and study.
The Gino Neri orchestra of mandolins and guitars from Ferrara produced considerable interest, along with the debut of the very young Italian Riccardo Calogiuri, and the address by Eduardo Fernandez.
The following Gold Guitar prizes were awarded for 2005:

A life for the guitar: Mario Gangi (Italy),
Education: Mauro Storti (Italy)
Best CD: Andrea Dieci (Italy)
Promising young artist: Goran Krivokapic (Montenegro)
Composition: Simone Iannarelli (Italy)
Promotion: Colin Cooper (Great Britain)
Musicology research: Francisco Herrera (Spain)

With the performances of the three “Pittaluga 2005” finalists at the closing concert on Saturday evening, the curtain went down on the Pittaluga competition and on the Guitar Convention in Alessandria.
For one year, Marlon Titre will have the great responsibility and satisfaction of representing the Alessandria competition around Italy and internationally.

The convention has been organised since 1995 by the Pittaluga Competition, the magazines Seicorde and Suonarenews, the Rotary club of Alessandria and some Companies from the music sector.
