A Special Music
Festival in Geneva April 27 to 30, 2006
The World Federation of International Music Competitions and the Geneva
International Music Competition are pleased to announce a special Festival
to celebrate the 50th annual General Assembly of the WFIMC. The Festival
comprises a series of concerts, each of them featuring prizewinners of
member competitions and taking place at various venues in Geneva April
27 to 30, 2006. The complete programme appears below.
To mark this 50th Assembly the WFIMC returns to its birthplace, Geneva.
Since the beginning in 1957, when 13 international music competitions
founded the Federation, members have met annually in many different parts
of the world. Tokyo, Washington, Pretoria, Sydney, Viña del Mar,
as well as a number of European cities, are some of the places which have
hosted the Assembly. Today the Federation has 120 members representing
international competitions in most parts of the world.
The WFIMC is dedicated to establishing a global network of internationally
recognized organisations which through public competition discover the
most promising young talents in the great tradition of classical music
and further their careers by presenting them before distinguished juries,
general audiences, the media, and the rest of the music community.
Over the years, a significant number of instrumentalists, singers, conductors
and composers have launched their careers as prizewinners in one or more
of the WFIMC's member competitions. The Federation is especially delighted
that a number of these artists have accepted an invitation to perform
free of charge in the Festival, and proudly presents them in Geneva on
this happy occasion.
The Festival is a collaboration between the WFIMC and the Geneva International
Music Competition, host of the 2006 General Assembly of the WFIMC and
a founding member. This Festival benefits from the support of the City
and the State of Geneva.
